Hollywood Candy in Omaha, Nebraska

If you have any plans to visit Omaha, Nebraska you must stop at Hollywood Candy.  It is located in the Old Market area and worth the trip.  They have the largest selection of candy in the area.  From retro candy to the latest releases, they have it all.

My family recently stopped there on our trip from Kansas City to Omaha.  The kids were in awe, and the adults were kids all over again.  Every childhood memory was found in that store.  We truly were kids in a candy store!

After you get done at the candy store, make sure to visit the Hollywood Pinball and Arcade Museum within the same building.  It houses over 85 games from different eras.  The games are all ready for token play.

Also located here is the Hollywood Theater, Fairmont Antiques, diner, and letterpress.  All are fun to visit and worth your time.

Travel Bites: Sprinkles Cupcakes in Nashville, Tennessee

The first time I heard about Sprinkles Cupcakes was from my youngest daughter watching a YouTube video.  Imagine that!  Kids these days don't watch TV anymore.  It's all about the YouTube videos. The family in the video had visited Sprinkles in Nashville and raved about the cupcakes.  Knowing how excited she was about going on a road trip to Nashville ourselves, I put it on our map of visits.

Located in the quaint 12South area of Nashville, this shop fits right in.  With a white brick front and cute sign to welcome you.  It is simply perfect.  You walk in and see the case full of delicious cupcakes.  Decisions! Decisions!  The sweet owner, Brooke, asked me if we wanted a cupcake or a cupcake sundae.  Excuse me!!  A CUPCAKE SUNDAE!!  I asked, "What is a cupcake sundae?"  She went on to explain that they take the cupcake and cut it in half, put the bottom half in the bowl, top it with a scoop of their famous ice cream, and then top it with the top of the cupcake.  Oh my goodness!!  My sweet tooth was screaming....YES!!

So, each of us ordered a cupcake sundae.  I had a sprinkle cupcake with vanilla bean ice cream.  My husband had the chocolate marshmallow cupcake with creme brulee ice cream.  My oldest daughter ordered a dark chocolate cupcake with dark chocolate ice cream.  And my youngest daughter ordered the red velvet cupcake with red velvet ice cream.  After thanking Brooke for the treats we headed outside to indulge.  With the Nashville mural around the corner, and a cute flower truck across the street, it was a fun location.

I have to admit, I'm a dessert nut and very picky.  But, these cupcakes were some of the most fluffy and tasteful I've ever had.  And to have ice cream in the middle of them was absolutely over the top.  It was one of our favorite stops of our trip.  We will definitely be visiting again!

Travel Bites: The Old Spaghetti Factory in St. Louis, Missouri

On a recent road trip from Kansas City to Nashville, we stopped in St. Louis for lunch.  With so many options, it was a hard decision.  However, The Old Spaghetti Factory drew us in with it's well-known Italian food, historic decor, and great location in downtown.  Did you know that this location has been in business for 40 years?!?!  Upon arrival, we were greeted by a beautiful brick building containing antique decor and a large staircase leading you downstairs to the restaurant.  My family was instantly impressed with the rich wooden decor, trolley car, and stained glass windows.  We got there right when they opened, allowing us to take some great interior pictures.  (photos: credit of my daughter, Madison Larson Photography)

After reviewing the menu full of mouth-watering items we ordered from the Famous 3-Course Meals (salad or soup, entree, and ice cream for dessert).  I got the Famous Baked Lasagna, my youngest daughter got the kids Fettuccine Alfredo.  My hubby and oldest daughter both selected from the Gluten Friendly Menu, gluten free pasta with Rich Meat Sauce and Breast of Chicken Fettuccine with gluten free pasta substituted for the fettuccine.  As you may know, gluten doesn't get along with some of the tummies in my household.  So, having those dishes available was a great alternative.

With each meal, we received a salad with the house peppercorn ranch dressing.  All of us agreed, the dressing was delicious...very creamy with just a slight spice.

The bread was soft and great to soak up any sauces and clean off our plates.

My lasagna was very cheesy and full of flavor with the rich meat sauce.  The other favorite of the table was the Breast of Chicken pasta dish.  It was creamy and had just the right amount of broccoli, mushrooms, and chicken.

Of course, while at The Old Spaghetti Factory, I had to order a Strawberry Italian Cream Soda.  Oh my!!  The soda mixed with strawberry syrup and whipped cream was a yummy treat that was quickly passed around the table for everyone to try.  Plus, you get to keep a glass as a souvenir.

To end the meal, we were given the option of vanilla or spumoni ice cream.  Have you every had spumoni?  It is like a neapolitan ice cream with cherry, chocolate and pistachio layers.  A perfect way to top off our lunch and get back on the road.

So, the next time you are in the St. Louis area, make sure to stop at The Old Spaghetti Factory for a delicious Italian meal.  It's perfect for a romantic dinner for two or an unforgettable family outing!
