Travel Bites: The Old Spaghetti Factory in St. Louis, Missouri

On a recent road trip from Kansas City to Nashville, we stopped in St. Louis for lunch.  With so many options, it was a hard decision.  However, The Old Spaghetti Factory drew us in with it's well-known Italian food, historic decor, and great location in downtown.  Did you know that this location has been in business for 40 years?!?!  Upon arrival, we were greeted by a beautiful brick building containing antique decor and a large staircase leading you downstairs to the restaurant.  My family was instantly impressed with the rich wooden decor, trolley car, and stained glass windows.  We got there right when they opened, allowing us to take some great interior pictures.  (photos: credit of my daughter, Madison Larson Photography)

After reviewing the menu full of mouth-watering items we ordered from the Famous 3-Course Meals (salad or soup, entree, and ice cream for dessert).  I got the Famous Baked Lasagna, my youngest daughter got the kids Fettuccine Alfredo.  My hubby and oldest daughter both selected from the Gluten Friendly Menu, gluten free pasta with Rich Meat Sauce and Breast of Chicken Fettuccine with gluten free pasta substituted for the fettuccine.  As you may know, gluten doesn't get along with some of the tummies in my household.  So, having those dishes available was a great alternative.

With each meal, we received a salad with the house peppercorn ranch dressing.  All of us agreed, the dressing was delicious...very creamy with just a slight spice.

The bread was soft and great to soak up any sauces and clean off our plates.

My lasagna was very cheesy and full of flavor with the rich meat sauce.  The other favorite of the table was the Breast of Chicken pasta dish.  It was creamy and had just the right amount of broccoli, mushrooms, and chicken.

Of course, while at The Old Spaghetti Factory, I had to order a Strawberry Italian Cream Soda.  Oh my!!  The soda mixed with strawberry syrup and whipped cream was a yummy treat that was quickly passed around the table for everyone to try.  Plus, you get to keep a glass as a souvenir.

To end the meal, we were given the option of vanilla or spumoni ice cream.  Have you every had spumoni?  It is like a neapolitan ice cream with cherry, chocolate and pistachio layers.  A perfect way to top off our lunch and get back on the road.

So, the next time you are in the St. Louis area, make sure to stop at The Old Spaghetti Factory for a delicious Italian meal.  It's perfect for a romantic dinner for two or an unforgettable family outing!

For the wonderful dining atmosphere and various menu items,
I give this location my Mandatory Munch seal of approval!!

  1. This is my favorite dining spot when traveling through St. Louis! I grew up in Southern Illinois and every trip to see the Cardinals required a meal at the Spaghetti factory. But I'm sorry to inform you that you missed out on the best thing on the menu! The pasta with browned butter and mizithra cheese is.to.die.for!!!!! They have these in spots all around the good ol' USA so next time you stop at one, be sure to try the browned butter and mizithra cheese! You won't regret it!
