Rye Melts

This is my hubby's favorite appetizer recipe that I make.  It is always a hit and best to make ahead of time and put into the freezer (see recipe).  After they are out of the oven I like to put them on my electric griddle on the "warm" setting for serving at a party.

2 pound bulk sausage (or 1 lb. sausage, 1 lb. hamburger)
1 pound Velveeta, cubed
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon dried oregano
¼ teaspoon pepper
1 ½ loaf sliced party rye bread

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until no longer pink; drain. Add the cheese and seasonings; stir until cheese is melted. Spread 1 to tablespoon hot mixture on each bread slice. Place on ungreased baking sheets.  Freeze melts on a baking sheet. Can be stored in freezer bags in the freezer for months.
Broil melts 10-15 minutes or until heated through.
